How to bake a perfect cake

I love baking cakes, but it wasn't that easy to make one at the start. As everybody else I did bake some really bad cakes which were stuck inside the cake mould, raw in the middle, hard and chewy to eat, and even worse sometimes. I started practising baking cakes and was finally able to make some decent and tasty ones during this lockdown.


Here are some tips that I noticed which have helped me bake a good cake:


1) Always pre-heat the oven:

It is really important to pre-heat the oven as it helps get the right temperature from the start and start cooking the product immediately. Try to heat the oven at the desired temperature at least 10-20 minutes prior to cooking.


2) Line or grease the pan:

Always remember to brush up your pan with butter/oil and line it with parchment paper. It helps to remove the cake easily without sticking. It also helps to have that crisp light brown layer around your cake.

3) Use ingredients at room temperature:

Always remember to take out your cold ingredients like milk, butter, eggs, etc. well in advance so you can use them at room temperature as it helps to easily emulsify your ingredients.


4) Precise Measuring:

Always remember to measure your ingredients while baking and be sure you are precise while doing so. Use the weighing scale and proper measuring spoons or cups. It helps you get the precise and consistent taste and result every time you make it.


5) Cut and Fold:

Always use the cut and fold method while mixing your wet and dry ingredients as it helps to mix the ingredients evenly and avoid flour pockets.. It also results in having a smooth and fluffy batter without breaking the air pockets resulting in a dense cake.


6) Bake in the middle Rack:

Try to always bake your ingredients in the middle rack of your oven unless mentioned otherwise in the recipe as it results in even cooking of the cake.
